Craigville 150th Anniversary
Big Sunday
Big Sunday-Then and Now
1872
When the people from the New England Convention of Christian Churches gathered for their first 10-day camp meeting at “Camp Christian” in 1872, Craigville had 44 tents and cottages and two hotel tents. The highlight of the week was “Big Sunday,” on August 4 , when the Tabernacle tent was full, and hundreds of others sat three-deep on the grounds nearby.
2022
On Sunday, July 31, Craigville will gather again for another “Big Sunday.”

Our preacher for the day will be Reverend Dr. John Dorhauer, General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ, the spiritual descendants of those early worshipers.
Special music will be provided by members of the Craigville Music Camp, including three well-known hymns with Craigville connections.
Following the service, the CCMA will host a special invitational lunch in the Inn for out-of-town guests and past leaders of the CCMA (by invitation only). We will recreate the traditional turkey menu that welcomed Craigville guests for their first meal of each week. The program will feature Craigville’s history through the eyes of three women whose lives encompassed 140 of Craigville’s 150 years. (The program will be available for the general community as part of the Heritage Series.)
