RLPP Phragmite Cutting and Removal

Volunteers are needed to do the actual cutting in the stream (wet foot) and on land to cut up and bag the phragmites (dry foot).

Volunteers who will work in the stream should wear high, waterproof boots and gloves. RLPPA has some that will be available. Volunteers who work on land should have gloves and wear clothing that will protect from tics. Hedge clippers are needed for both in stream and on land. Garden rakes are also needed for moving phragmites from the stream. Please bring what you have!

This is the 4th year of cutting phragmites from the herring run, which has helped keep them in check from clogging the run and thus discouraging herring from spawning into Lake Elizabeth. This project is one part of the comprehensive work being undertaken by Red Lily Pond Project for the enhancement and health of our ponds.
